A violent militant siege on a police training facility late Friday night has resulted in the martyrdom of seven police officers and the deaths of five assailants, including one suicide bomber, authorities confirmed Saturday. The intense confrontation also left 13 security personnel injured.

The heavily armed attackers stormed the training centre in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan around 8:30 p.m., initiating the deadly assault with a suicide explosion before engaging in a fierce firefight with the personnel stationed there.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hafiz Muhammad Adnan, law enforcement retaliated effectively, repelling the attackers in a counter-operation that continued late into the night. He confirmed that all the terrorists involved in the deadly incident were eliminated.

In the aftermath, the director of the District Headquarters (DHQ) Trauma Centre stated that 13 wounded officers were transported to the facility for urgent medical treatment. The Director General of Public Relations also announced that over 200 police officers and recruits present during the assault were safely rescued.

Following the conclusion of the operation, both the Police Training School and an adjacent National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office were declared secure.

This attack occurs amid a significant increase in regional violence. A recent report from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) noted a 46% surge in violent incidents across Pakistan during the third quarter of 2025, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being the most affected province. The region accounted for 638 of the 901 fatalities recorded nationwide during this period.
