Sehrai condemns summoning of Mirwaiz, Gilani’s son by NIA

Srinagar, March 11, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai has condemned the summoning of Hurriyat forum Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Gilani’s son, Syed Naseem Gilani, by the Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA). Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar said harassing and intimidating resistance leaders and their relatives is a tool often used by India to crush the freedom voice but they have failed in doing so in the past and will definitely fail in the future as well.

He said this exercise is fabricated and aimed at misleading the people of India. “The NIA is being used to suppress Kashmiris and made them surrender before the Government of India. Besides harassing the leadership, their relatives are arrested and harassed to make us surrender before the Indian Government,” he added. Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai said New Delhi is trying to portray the people’s political struggle in Kashmir as terrorism, especially in the wake of international pressure building up on New Delhi.

He said Kashmir dispute can never be resolved through military might and intimidation as it is a political and a human dispute based on the principle of the right to self-determination. “Kashmir dispute has historical background and context which can’t be ignored and dealing with it militarily and adopting iron-fist policy will only further deteriorate the situation”, he maintained.
