Sehrai demands release of Kashmiri detainees

Srinagar, June 28, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, expressing concern over the plight of illegally detained Kashmiris in different jails has demanded their unconditional release.

Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar said that all the accusations against the Kashmiri detainees were politically motivated and aimed at forcing them into submission. He said that most of the detainees were suffering from severe ailments. He said to prolong the detention of these Kashmiri prisoners, the authorities deliberately often don’t produce them before the courts on time for fair trial.

Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai said, “Pathetic plight of Kashmiri political prisoners lodged in different jails should serve as an eye-opener for the human rights organizations to see how they are being subjected to political vendetta. Not only the political prisoners, but their families, too, are going through a continuous trauma. The treatment meted out to them is not only a violation of the Geneva conventions of the rights and dignity of prisoners but is even against basic human practices and ethics,” he said.

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman pointed out that the occupation authorities have framed Hurriyat leaders, activists and youth in frivolous cases under draconian law, Public Safety Act, and continue to subject them to illegal detention for years and decades which is a travesty of justice.

Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai urged the UN Human Rights Council and other human rights organisations to take cognizance of the grave misuse of power against those with dissenting political beliefs in occupied Kashmir, inhuman their prolonged detention and treatment meted out to them in jails.
