A Senate Sub-Committee has voiced grave reservations over the granting of major project contracts to a company and its affiliate, NXCC and RADC, condemning the absence of senior officials and the “misleading” statements provided by their junior staff during a contentious meeting on Friday.
The Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Communication, led by Senator Kamil Ali Agha, scrutinized the controversial allocation of key infrastructure projects. The session was also attended by Senators Zamir Ahmed Ghumro and Saifullah Abro, who expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency from the involved departments.
During the proceedings, Senator Agha specifically questioned the integrity of the Tranche-III project contract awarded to NXCC. He demanded clarification regarding a letter the National Highway Authority (NHA) reportedly sent to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) concerning the matter.
In a move to deepen the inquiry, the committee chairman ordered the immediate submission of all documents presented in court related to the NXCC case. Furthermore, he summoned the consultant firm hired for the Tranche-III project to deliver a comprehensive briefing at the next scheduled hearing.
Highlighting the connection between the firms, Senator Saifullah Abro pointed out that RADC is a sister company of NXCC. He formally requested detailed information about the contract assigned to RADC for rehabilitation work on the Lodhran-Multan project.
The panel resolved to continue its investigation into the affair, instructing the NHA to guarantee the presence of its senior management at the forthcoming meeting to provide accurate and transparent information.
