Senate Special Committee on project of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor

Islamabad, February 26, 2018 (PPI-OT): Senate Special Committee on the project of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in its last meeting before Senate elections finalized drafts of Committee’s fourth and fifth interim report on the visits to Gawadar and China respectively. The internal meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Senator Taj Haider here at the Parliament House on Monday and was attended among others by Senators Karim Ahmed Khawaja, Saeedul Hassan Mandokhel and Muhammad Usman Khan Kakar.

The Committee stressed upon the need of expediting work on the western route of CPEC and removing confusions about the route. The committee decided to include in its report the route which is Yarik – D.I. Khan – Zhob – Quetta – Khuzdar. The Committee observed that since all development in coming years will be around the CPEC routes in the concerned areas so it is of high significance to remove all confusions on the route. The Committee also suggested exploring possibility of link corridors of Balochistan with Iran and Afghanistan to enhance trade which will eventually bring prosperity to the area.

The Committee has also recommended working on having joint economic zones between China and Pakistan. This would materialize by having economic zones in China for facilitating Pakistan and its people on the pattern of economic zones in Pakistan which are facilitating China.
