KARACHI:Medical and Health Services Department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has decided to establish a separate Coronavirus unit at Karachi Institute of Kidney Diseases (KIKD) to contain the spread COVID-19 to other kidney patients during dialysis procedure.
Senior Director, Health and Medical Services, KMC, Dr Birbal Genani, while talking to PPI, informed that a 6-bed separate intensive care unit and 4-bed kidney dialysis unit are being established at Karachi Institute of Kidney Diseases to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus during dialysis. He further informed that dialysis will be performed in three shifts for patients who require dialysis and are also suffering from COVID-19.
He said the step has been taken for protection and safety of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff, as well as, kidney patients. He said ICU and COVID-19 unit would be made functional soon.
