Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) has disconnected 323 electricity connections of various government institutions across 10 districts, including Sukkur, Shikarpur, Khairpur, and Larkana.

The power disconnection affects various government institutions, street lights, and public services. Notably, street lights on major roads in Sukkur city, such as Airport Road, Military Road, and Shikarpur Road, have been turned off, causing inconvenience to residents.

According to SEPCO’s CEO, Ijaz Ahmed Channa, the action was taken due to the Sindh government’s failure to pay outstanding dues. The disconnection of electricity supply to government institutions underscores the urgent need for the Sindh government to address these financial obligations to restore essential services in the affected areas.

SEPCO, a major electricity provider in Sindh, serves multiple districts, including Sukkur, Shikarpur, Khairpur, and Larkana. SEPCO is responsible for distributing electricity to both private consumers and public sector institutions. Over the years, there have been recurrent issues with unpaid electricity bills from various government institutions.

The financial strain caused by unpaid dues has led SEPCO to take drastic measures, including disconnecting electricity connections of defaulting entities. Such actions are often seen as a last resort to get pending dues. The Sindh government’s apparent indifference to settling these dues has exacerbated the situation, affecting the daily lives of citizens and the functionality of government services in these districts.
