The meteorological department today warned of an impending heatwave set to engulf the country starting today, with conditions expected to worsen into a severe heatwave in the southern region by tomorrow.

Daytime temperatures are forecasted to rise significantly, reaching 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal in the southern areas and 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above the usual levels in central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan until April 18th. Nighttime temperatures are also projected to remain unusually high, potentially causing dust or windstorms due to the excessive heat.

The public, especially vulnerable groups like children, women, and seniors, are urged to exercise caution. Staying out of direct sunlight, maintaining hydration, and adjusting outdoor activities are recommended. Farmers are advised to protect their livestock from the harsh conditions.

Additionally, the rise in northern temperatures may speed up snowmelt, and gusty winds could risk damaging loose structures such as electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels in susceptible areas.
