Shazia flays Centre over worsening gas shortage in Sindh

KARACHI: Central Information Secretary Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians and member of the National Assembly Shazia Atta Marri said Friday that the gas crisis had intensified in the province of Sindh which was a very regrettable act of federal government and the Sindh was the province that produces 60 to 70 percent of natural gas in the country.

She said that according to article 158 of the Constitution of Pakistan, the province in which a well-head of natural gas is situated shall have precedence over other parts of Pakistan in meeting the requirements from the well-head.

She added that Sindh province had been facing the gas crisis since long time. Ms Marri said that the federal government was not supplying due share of gas to Sindh province as per its requirement.

“There is a intense shortage of natural gas in the cities of the province including Karachi and domestic consumers are also facing difficulties. She said that even now, Sui Southern gas had also decided to cut off gas supply to industries in Sindh province and this decision of the federal government was highly regrettable and condemnable.

She said that the injustice with Sindh province on gas supply at the part of federal government would weaken the federation itself. She demanded that Sindh province should get its required share of gas as per Article 158 of the Constitution of Pakistan and federal government was also depriving Sindh of its constitutional right.
