SHC notices OGRA, SSGC over gas shortage in Sindh

KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued notices to chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and others on a petition against gas supply suspension and shortage across Sindh.

A two-member bench of the SHC, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, heard a petition against gas cut off and shortage across Sindh. The court ordered the Managing Director SSGC to ensure submitting his reply in the next hearing of the case.

The court remarked that the Supreme Court has given a detailed decision regarding the delivery of gas. “We will review in the light of the orders of the Supreme Court,” the court remarked.

The petitioner stated that in Sindh, 68% of the total production of gas is extracted, Punjab 4, Balochistan 19, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 9%.

“Under Article 158 of the Constitution, the province from which more gas is extracted will be given higher priority over other provinces,” the petitioner said.
