KARACHI:The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday ordered the provincial and federal governments to provide complete security to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
A two-member bench of the SHC, headed by Justice KK Agha, heard a petition seeking provision of security to PPP chairman and Member of National Assembly (MNA) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and ordered the Home Department Sindh and Federal Secretary for Ministry of Interior to make all security arrangements for the PPP Chairman.
The court permitted the PPP chairman to use a car with black color glass and personal security guards. The court directed the government to provide broad security to Bilawal Bhutto at public places.
The petition was filed by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in 2016 about providing him security. Bhutto’s counsel, Akhtar Hussain, told the court that numerous security agencies had also issued threat alerts for the PPP chairman. The federal government could not produce a policy pertaining to producing security to political leaders. He argued Bilawal is feared to be targeted anywhere by various terrorist organizations.
Justice KK Agha observed that it appeared with the reports of agencies that Bilawal Bhutto’s life has security threats, so there no further delay is acceptable in such a situation.
The Justice remarked: “In our observation, it is necessary to provide security to Bilawal Bhutto.” “No comprehensive policy has been formulated to provide security to political leaders,” the Assistant Attorney General said.
Earlier, the bench had remarked that providing protection and security to every citizen is the responsibility of the state.
