SHC reserves verdict on petition against DUHS admission policy

Karachi:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday reserved its verdict on a petition against admission policy of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS).

The petition was filed by a Sajawal-based girl student, Shariqa Magsi, in which she stated that the university’s admission policy was bias and illegal as it is limited to only Karachi division. The girl, who has Pharmacy D, was not allowed to apply in the university despite having domicile of Sindh province.

The counsel of the petitioner told the court that limiting the admission policy to only one division was illegal. No such limited admission policy is prevalent in any other university or college of the Sindh province, the counsel argued. The court, after hearing statements, reserved its verdict.

Earlier, court was informed that a student from Karachi is eligible for admission in MBBS, BDS and Pharmacy D courses in the university, the counsel informed the court. The court had earlier remarked why only Karachi? Where the children from other districts will go,” the bench questioned the university’s lawyer. “A child from Sujawal should apply for medical education in Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” the bench questioned.

“You had earlier said that only the children of Sindh will get admission (in the university).” Now saying that only children from Karachi will be eligible for admission,” the court remarked.
