ISLAMABAD:Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif on Monday refused to become a part of any consultation for caretaker setup as Imran has imposed civilian martial law, however, they await decision from the apex court against violation of the Constitution.
Addressing a joint press conference along with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Shehbaz said that the President had subverted the Constitution, he would not become part of consultation for the caretaker prime minister. He said that yesterday 197 members voted in favour of no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Shahbaz said that if there really was an international letter, then why did the Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) accepted the voting on the no-confidence motion on March 24. The PML-N leader also said that the deputy speaker was used in this whole process and the ruling was declared in a haste.
Shahbaz Sharif further stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Government hac sabotaged the democracy and the steps taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan and his party members yesterday were contrary to the constitution. Shehbaz Sharif questioned why the matter of Article 5 was not raised when no confidence motion against the Prime Minister was being tabled in the house
He said that Pervez Musharraf had also done the exact same unconstitutional deed. He taunted Imran that since he could not face the no-trust motion and in the face of his clear defeat, his deputy speaker gave an unconstitutional ruling. He said that opposition would protest against deputy speaker’s ruling in every nook and corner of this country. He said the Supreme Court had stopped the government functionaries from taking any step which transcends the country’s constitution.
Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari prayed the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to constitute a full court bench to decide about the ruling of the Deputy Speaker on No-Confidence Motion and subsequent dissolution of the National Assembly. He said no confidence motion is a democratic way to oust Prime Minister. He said we will continue to defend the constitution.
