Shehla Rasheed booked for sedition over posts on Kashmir

New Delhi, September 06, 2019 (PPI-OT): Delhi Police have booked Kashmiri political activist, Shehla Rasheed, under sedition charges over her comments about human rights violations by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir. A Special Cell of Delhi Police lodged an FIR against Shehla Rasheed for her remarks on the ground situation in the occupied territory.

Shehla Rasheed, currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, in a series of tweets had said that the Indian Army was indiscriminately picking up men, raiding houses and torturing people in occupied Kashmir.

Shehla Rasheed had said that the Indian Army was involved in human rights abuses amid a clampdown in occupied Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 by the Indian government. She had stated that human rights abuses were being carried out in the occupied territory to serve the agenda of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“People are saying that police have no authority on law and order situation. They have been rendered powerless. Everything is in the hands of paramilitary forces. One SHO was transferred on the complaint of a CRPF man,” Shehla Rasheed had tweeted.

In another post, she wrote, “Armed forces are entering houses at night, picking up boys, ransacking houses, deliberately spilling rations on the floor, mixing oil with rice, etc.” The tweets had drawn sharp reactions. Shehla Rasheed, however, had said she was ready to give the evidence when the Indian Army constitutes an inquiry.
