Sher Shah blast not due to SSGC line

Karachi, August 07, 2018 (PPI-OT): An erroneous impression is being created in various sections of the press with regards to the blast that took precious lives and injured a few residents in Karachi’s Sher Shah Colony. In order to put the facts in the right perspective, SSGC sees it fit to give an accurate picture of the situation.

At the outset, it must be mentioned that while the FIR cited the fatal explosion to a leakage in a gas pipeline, the fact remains that the blast was not caused by the SSGC line. The fact is that the location of the blast was being illegally used as a commercial godown in a residential colony.

The nearest gas pipeline is at some distance from the site of the explosion and as witnessed by the area residents, there were no traces of any blast in that pipeline. To put the facts in order it must be noted that gas pipelines do not explode due to leakage; rather they catch fire, which never happened in the case of this tragic incident.

It is pertinent to mention here that the case of gas leakage reported in the FIR dates back to the month of June. As soon as the complaint was received from the area residents, the Company’s concerned team fixed the gas leakage and no complain was reported thereafter.
