Sherry slams Alvi for blocking legislation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman on Saturday hit out at President Arif Alvi for what she called acting as a representative of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and not as the president of the country.

In a series of tweets, she said that when it came to signing the bills amended by the parliament, the president refused to do so saying he feared The Almighty Allah. “But why did not he consider himself to be accountable before the Almighty when he kept promulgating ordinances one after the other when Imran was the prime minister?” she questioned.

Truth of the matter was that, she added, that President Alvi should not create obstacles in the constitutional and parliamentary matters. Sherry went on to say that under the PTI government he had made the President House an ‘ordinance-making’ factory. “He returns the bills passed by the parliament only to please his party chairman,” PPP senator opined. She said that as a parliamentarian she regretted the ‘non-cooperative’ behavior of President Alvi.
