Shifting of Aasiya, others to Delhi strongly condemned

Srinagar, July 07, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have strongly condemned the shifting of Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi and her associates, Fahmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen to New Delhi by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement in Srinagar described the move as political vendetta against the Hurriyat leadership. It said the NIA is subjecting several Hurriyat leaders and activists to inhuman treatment and psychological torture. It urged the Kashmiri people to forge greater unity among their ranks to defeat all defeat the nefarious designs of Indian armed forces, police, and intelligence agencies.

The Jamaat-e-Islami of occupied Kashmir in its statement in Srinagar condemning the shifting of Aasiya Andrabi to Delhi called it an act of sheer vengeance, which is from all aspects a shameful game played to suppress the genuine voice of the people of Kashmir. It demanded immediate return of all the three women leaders to the Valley and their unconditional release.

The High Court Bar Association of the territory in a statement issued in Srinagar denounced the shifting of Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief and her associates to New Delhi. It said that by shifting Aasiya Andrabi and others to New Delhi, the Indian government wanted to intimidate and humiliate the freedom loving people of Kashmir and their leaders so that they gave up their demand for right to self-determination.

“At a time, when UN Human Rights Council has taken a strong notice of the human rights violations in Kashmir and has demanded that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people by implementing the UN resolutions, the arrest, detention and shifting of Aasiya Andrabi, Nahida Nasreen and Fahmeeda Sofi to New Delhi is highly deplorable,” it added.

The Chairman of United Jihad Council, Syed Salahuddin, in a statement said, Aasiya Andrabi’s health condition was already deteriorating and now shifting her to Delhi and putting her in jail would further affect her health. He said that India should understand the fact that its suppressive measures would never succeed to intimidate the Kashmiris into submission.

Meanwhile, member of the so-called Kashmir Assembly, Engineer Abdur Rasheed in a statement in Srinagar while condemning the shifting of Aasiya Andrabi and her associates to Delhi by the NIA said that such moves reflected the confusing mindset of New Delhi. He said, “Delhi should stop terrorizing genuine Kashmiri leadership and must understand that muscular policy will not work.”
