Shutdown in IOK against custodial killing of scholar

Srinagar, March 20, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown is being observed, today, against the custodial killing of a 28-year-old scholar and Jamaat-e-Islami activist, Rizwan Asad. Call for shutdown has been given by the Joint Resistance Leadership and supported by the trader bodies and High Court Bar Association of the territory. All shops and other business establishments are shut in Srinagar and other areas of the valley while public transport is off the road.

Heavy deployment of Indian paramilitary and police personnel has been made in Srinagar and other parts of the territory and restrictions have been enforced on the movement of people to prevent anti-India protests. Meanwhile, the occupation authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Srinagar, Badgam and Pulwama districts. The authorities also suspended train service in the occupied territory.

The 28-year-old post graduate in Physics who headed a private school, and was a faculty member at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Awantipora was killed during interrogation in police custody at infamous interrogation center Cargo camp in Srinagar on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
