Srinagar,
February 01, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown is being
observed in Pulwama town on Friday to mourn the killing of two youth by the
troops earlier today. The youth identified as Shahid Ahmad Baba and Inayat
Ahmad were killed during a cordon and search operation launched by the troops
at Baba Mohalla of Drabgam village in the district after midnight today. The
troops also razed to rubble a residential house on the occasion.
All
shops and other business establishments are closed in the town while traffic is
off the road. Indian forces have been deployed in strength on various spots
across the Pulwama town and some other areas to thwart any protests against the
killing of the two youth. Mobile internet services have also been snapped in
the district.
Meanwhile,
complete shutdown was also being observed in Ajas area of north Kashmir’s
Bandipora district, today, to mark the 27th martyrdom anniversary of those
killed on this day in 1992 by the Indian troops. All shops and business
establishments remained closed while as very thin traffic was seen on the
roads.
The
locals said that troops of Indian Border Security Force had laid a siege around
Ajas village on Feb 1, 1992 and asked the villagers to gather in the lawns of
the mosque. They said four people, Abdul Rasheed Ganai, Muhammad Maqbool
Rather, Abdul Rahim Rathar and Muhammad Sultan Lone were killed and thirteen
others were injured after the troops of Indian Border Security Force opened
fire on them. The locals said that another civilian, Wali Rehman Khan, was
tortured to death and his body was taken away in a vehicle by the BSF men. “His
body was never handed over to his family. It has been 27 years since the
gruesome incident took place but justice still eludes the victim families”,
they said.
