Shutdown in Srinagar parts against arrests

Srinagar, February 23, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, shutdown was observed in parts of Srinagar, today, following the arrest of dozens of Hurriyat leaders and activists by Indian troops during an ongoing massive crackdown across the territory.

Business establishments were closed in Lal Chowk and other parts of Srinagar after news about the arrests of dozens of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and deployment of additional companies of Indian paramilitary forces in occupied Kashmir. Eye witnesses said that the youth took to streets in Nowhatta area of the old city and raised anti-India slogans.

Indian troops and police have arrested over 150 pro-freedom people including the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and dozens of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders including its Ameer, Dr Abdul Hamid Fayaz during nocturnal raids across the Kashmir Valley.
