Silence not an option, world must speak out for Kashmir: Mahathir

Kuala Lumpur, August 08, 2020 (PPI-OT): Former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir Mohammad said that he chose to stand with humanity when he spoke out for the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the United Nations General Assembly. Addressing a function in support of Kashmir in Kuala Lumpur, Mahathir Mohammad said that he chose to speak for the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir despite being aware of the possible backlash to his decision. He said that in his mind, silence was not an option.

He further said that Kashmiris were forced to live under harsh military rule and the international community should take notice of Kashmiri people’s plight. Dr Mahathir said that he was sorry that his speech affected Malaysia’s palm oil export to India but offered no apology for what he said during the UN General Assembly speech. He said that now that he had left office, he can speak freely and address the Kashmir dispute without Indian threats of boycotts etc.
