The Sindh government has decided to introduce a smart surveillance system to combat environmental pollution.
Agha Shahnawaz, Secretary of the Department of Environment, Climate Change, and Coastal Development Sindh, emphasized the importance of the smart surveillance system.
In a meeting organized by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Agha Shahnawaz stated that digitalization is a crucial need of the time. He mentioned that the project will be completed in a year, during which old, smokeemitting vehicles will be automatically identified and fined in collaboration with the traffic police.
The meeting discussed environmental change, industrial pollution, and coastal protection. It was attended by DG SEPA Waqar Hussain Phulpoto, Director of Natural Resources Imran Sabir, industrialists, transporters, and experts.
FPCCI’s Senior Vice President Saqib Fayyaz Magoon stressed the need to increase exports, stating that small factories cannot set up wastewater treatment plants. The government should devise a comprehensive strategy to ensure environmental protection.

Environmental experts informed the meeting that due to water scarcity, mangroves, which play a crucial role in marine life conservation, are disappearing. Agha Shahnawaz noted that water shortages in coastal areas are endangering lives.
He suggested the immediate formation of an emergency committee to develop an effective strategy. The meeting concluded with appreciation for the government’s initiatives.
