Sindh Chief Minister takes notice of torture against children in Hyderabad mosque

Karachi, December 14, 2018 (PPI-OT): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah taking serious notice of a video went viral on news channel and social media in which a Maulana was beating children with a heavy pie in a Mosque in Hyderabad and directed the Commissioner [Hyderabad] to give him report of the incident and take appropriate measure to stop such incidents.

Latter, talking with Commissioner Hyderabad Abbas Baloch on telephone, the chief minister said that torture and humiliation against children was unacceptable at any cost. “These innocent children are future of our country and we have to educate and train them with love, affection and care,” he said and added “otherwise we would spoil our future generation.”

Commissioner Abbas Baloch told the chief minister that Qari Shabir Ahmed, the Pesh Imam of Sarhandi Masjid situated in Sarfraz Colony was teaching Holy Quran to the children of the locality. He beat some children for being irregular. Latter, Father of a child filed a complaint with Cantt Police station and the police have arrested Qari Shabir and registered a case FIR No.121/18.

The chief minister said that he had directed Secretary School Education and Secretary Religious Affairs to work out a programme or scheme for counselling of teachers against torture. “Gone are the days when children were beaten severely by the teachers and now the children are quite sharp and well aware of their rights, therefore they must be taught by their teachers with modern techniques and personal care.

‘We can’t teach our children with torture and creating wave of fear,” he said and added the actual teaching lied in motivation, encouragement and proper care of the children. He directed Commissioner Hyderabad to issue guidance for the teachers of all madaris not to resort to torture methods to punish the children for their mistakes.
