Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed concern over the lack of implementation of relief measures in flood-affected areas despite the declaration of an environmental and agricultural emergency. Speaking to the media in Kashmore, he said that Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was the first to demand the declaration of emergency and thanked the Prime Minister for heeding the request. However, the Chief Minister noted that the instructions of Chairman Bhutto Zardari to provide assistance through the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) have not yet been implemented. He added that there is a dire need to issue a flash appeal, which has not yet been issued.
The current flow of water at Guddu Barrage is 550,000 cusecs, with a capacity of up to 650,000 cusecs. The Chief Minister confirmed the presence of machinery at sensitive points of the embankments and expressed hope that the floodwater would pass safely through Sukkur Barrage. He reiterated his government’s prioritization of saving human lives and stated that there had been no loss of life in the low-lying areas. Although 3 million people have been displaced from Kashmore, they have not used relief camps, but medical camps in Kashmore and Ghotki are providing services to people and animals.
Attributing the successful management of the crisis so far to preparedness and divine help, Chief Minister Shah lauded the tireless efforts of Minister Jam Khan Shoro and his team. He also praised the services of cabinet ministers, assembly members, and the administration in flood management operations.
