Sindh’s minority industrial workers will now benefit from the Sindh Workers Welfare Board’s electric bike scheme, previously exclusive to female employees.
This expansion, announced on Youm-e-Azadi and Maraka-e-Haq, underscores the government”s commitment to inclusivity, according to Labour Secretary Rafiq Qureshi. Qureshi emphasized the symbolic connection to the white stripe in Pakistan”s flag, representing minority rights. He affirmed the government”s dedication to worker welfare.
The Board also revealed plans to strengthen its financial position by investing Rs3 billion in Shariah-compliant Sukuk bonds. This investment, approved by the SECP, aims to broaden worker facilities.
The Workers’ Accidental Health Insurance Scheme has been enhanced, now offering annual coverage of Rs700,000 and access to 270 hospitals across the country. Housing improvements include transitioning from worker flats to solar-powered homes. Board-run schools will also adopt solar energy and provide students with two sets of uniforms annually.
To ensure transparent and equitable service delivery, Qureshi announced the digitization of all Board operations. Following the Sindh Chief Minister’s orders, the Death Grant will be increased to Rs1 million, and the Marriage Grant raised from Rs300,000 to Rs500,000.
