Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met with a high-level Italian delegation led by Mr. Francesco Maria Talò, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Defence, along with Ambassador E. Marilina Armellin and other key diplomats. The meeting focused on strengthening ties in trade, education, culture, and other sectors to foster mutual growth and development.
According to a statement issued from CM House on Sunday, the Chief Minister highlighted the potential for Italian experts to support Sindh’s infrastructure development and boost local industries through international collaboration. He emphasised opportunities in sectors such as textiles, leather, and agriculture, where Sindh’s and Italian industries could forge strong partnerships to drive economic growth.
Italy’s expertise in supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) was also discussed, with Shah stating, ‘Italy’s support for SMEs could significantly boost Sindh’s economy.’
The meeting explored opportunities for Sindh’s students to access scholarships at Italian universities and participate in collaborative vocational training in fields like fashion, design, and engineering. These initiatives aim to equip students with advanced skills to excel in their careers.
Shah underscored the importance of Italy’s world-class expertise in cultural preservation, which could help revitalise Sindh’s historical sites. Plans for joint festivals and cultural programmes were also discussed to celebrate the rich heritage of both regions and enhance mutual understanding.
The delegation discussed Italy’s advanced capabilities in security, counter-terrorism, and disaster management. Chief Minister Murad Shah highlighted the potential for training Sindh’s law enforcement agencies and enhancing urban disaster response systems.
Italy’s support in tackling climate challenges, such as urban flooding and promoting sustainable agriculture, was acknowledged as a crucial area for collaboration. These efforts align with Sindh’s need for solutions to pressing environmental issues.
Both sides expressed a commitment to humanitarian initiatives, particularly those aimed at supporting differently-abled children and vulnerable communities. This shared vision underscores the social dimension of the partnership.
The discussions generated optimism about future Italian investments in Sindh’s infrastructure, renewable energy, and transportation sectors. The meeting also laid the groundwork for potential memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and joint projects.
