Sindh, Punjab police recover Dua Zehra, arrest husband

KARACHI: Sindh and Punjab police recover Dua Zehra from Bahawalnagar and arrested her husband Zaheer and their facilitator.

According to police, a joint operation was conducted in Bahawalnagar in which Dua was recovered while her husband and a person sheltering them were arrested. The anti-violent crime cell of Karachi police with the help of Punjab police conducted the raid. The police launched raids in all provinces of Pakistan including Kashmir and collected data of hundreds of people and recovered the girl after short-listing these people, a top police official said.

The couple was handed over to Karachi police while their facilitator, who is a bank employee, was handed over to Lahore police. Dua and her husband Zaheer would be presented before the court in Karachi tomorrow. The police said that the couple was not using their mobile phones in order to hide their location.

Dua made a free will marriage with Zaheer Ahmed in April 2022 and took shelter in Punjab. Dua’s father however challenged the marriage in the court. He told the court that Dua’s age is less than 14 years, therefore, it is an underage marriage which is a crime under the Child Marriage Act 2013. The court had also removed acting IG Sindh Kamran Fazal from his post for failing to recover the girl.
