KARACHI:Sindh government has decided to launch municipal services under Sindh Solid Waste Management in Hyderabad and Kotri.
Such municipal services would also be launched in Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad at a later stage.
The decision was taken in 13th meeting of Sindh Solid Waste Management Board held here with Provincial Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah on Tuesday. Secretaries of Local Government, Industries and Planning departments, Managing Director Solid Waste Management Board and other members attended the meeting.
MD Solid Waste Management Board informed the meeting that Kotri Municipal Corporation has signed the resolution while such resolution would also be signed in Qasimabad, Hyderabad for which the Commissioner of Hyderabad has written a letter.
Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah said that 200 acre land had been earmarked near Jamshoro along M-9 Motorway for landfill site, which will be developed on modern lines, however, environmental impact assessment should also be conducted for the purpose.
Directing the MD to improve the performance of SWMB, Chief Secretary said that the officers of good repute would be posted in SWMB. He also directed that the contract for lifting the garbage should be awarded to the companies on the basis of their performance. The meeting was informed that Clean Karachi Campaign had been launched in the city.
