New Delhi, September 05, 2020 (PPI-OT): Indian Army Chief, General MM Naravane, has admitted that the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh is “delicate and serious”. Indian Army quoted General MM Naravane at the end of his two-day visit to Ladakh as having said that the Indian Army had undertaken precautionary deployment in some areas.
“The situation along the LAC is tense. We have undertaken precautionary deployment in some areas,” he said. Indian and Chinese troops are engaged in a bitter standoff in multiple places along the LAC. At least 20 Indian troops were killed and 76 others injured in a severe clash between the Chinese and Indian soldiers on the night of June 15, this year, in Galwan Valley in Ladakh. Tensions flared in the sensitive Ladakh sector after fresh clashes near Pangong Tso on the intervening night of 29 and 30 August as well as on 31 August.
Meanwhile, Indian Foreign Secretary, Harsh V. Shringla, while virtually addressing the Indian Council of World Affairs said that the ongoing tension between India and China at the LAC in Ladakh was the “most serious challenge” and similar to what both sides faced in 1962.
“We have had an unprecedented situation on the India-China border. We’ve never had this situation since 1962. We never lost lives in the last 40 years. It is an unprecedented situation,” Shringla said. In 1962, China and India had fought a war that continued for about a month after which China declared a unilateral ceasefire.
