Authorities in Pakistan’s southwestern Noshki district said on Thursday they had rescued six laborers abducted last week during an attack on a dam construction site.

The workers were recovered in an operation by local officials and levies in the Zarain Jungle Reko area, the district administration said. Armed men had kidnapped the group on November 28 after raiding their camp at the Rekocheri dam site, setting the camp and machinery on fire before fleeing.

The freed laborers were identified as Zahoor Ahmed and Bismillah, both drivers from Quetta; survey engineer Hardin from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Shair Ahmed from Waziristan, and Kaji and Nasir Baloch also from Quetta.

No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction. Authorities said an investigation was underway to track down the assailants. Violence and kidnappings have been reported in parts of Balochistan province, where separatist groups have waged a long-running insurgency against the state.

The abduction of six laborers in Noshki is part of a broader pattern of insecurity in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan. The region has long been plagued by insurgent violence, with separatist groups targeting infrastructure projects, workers, and security forces.
