Karachi, October 06, 2016 (PPI-OT): A three member delegation of She-males led by Gender Interactive Alliance President Bindya Rana on Thursday met Sindh Minister for Social Welfare Ms. Shamim Mumtaz at her office. Vice President of the alliance Mazhar Anjum and She-males Focal Person for Sindh Govt. Rafee Khan were other members of the delegation.
Provincial Minister assured the delegation that in light of apex court orders, all issues of she-males will be addressed on priority basis. “Community centres for transgender will be erected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad and Larkana while in first phase such center will be established in Karachi,” Minister added. She further assured delegation that Focal Person of Police department will also be nominated on provincial level to resolve issues of she-males and added that in this regard she would personally get in touch with provincial Police chief.
She further informed delegation that short technical training courses of beautician, dressing etc would be arranged for transgender to enable them to earn their livelihood in respectable manner. She also assured them that issues of computerized national identity cards faced by she males in Larkana and salary issue of three she male employees of social welfare department Larkana will also be resolved.
On the occasion provincial minister for social welfare made telephonic conversation with commissioner and deputy commissioner Larkana and directed them to arrange meeting with she-males of Larkana and resolve all their issues in light of apex court orders. Earlier, briefing provincial minister, Rafee Khan told provincial minister that population of she-males comprised more than sixteen thousands persons.
Despite clear orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, they were deprived of their fundamental rights. He informed that he was a highly qualified and had done post graduate degrees in both political science and economics separately but still jobless. For last eight years, issuance of national identity cards of number of she-males had been stuck at Larkana NADRA office.
Due to extreme poverty, she males were forced to beggary. She further said that HIV Aids was also issue in Larkana but treatment facilities were not satisfactory there. Bindya Rana told that she males should be involved in decision making process and reserved seat for she- males in Sindh assembly should be announced.
She appreciated the spirit of Provincial Minister for Social Minister Ms. Shamim Mumtaz and added they were sick of advocating the issues at different government offices and lost their faith, however Madam Shamim Mumtaz after assuming the charge of social welfare department as minister herself invited us for addressing issues. Delegation hoped that their issues will be addressed.
