Rawalpindi, January 26, 2023 (PPI-OT):Youth Forum for Kashmir (YFK) organized a seminar “Occupation of Kashmir: Negation of Indian Claims as Democracy” at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, with the collaboration of the Department of Anthropology, today, on India’s Republic Day. The aim of the seminar was to highlight Indian atrocities Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and reaffirm the solidarity with the oppressed people of the occupied territory. Speakers of the event were Prof Dr Qamar-ul-Zaman, Vice Chancellor of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi; Prof Dr Abdul Saboor, Dean of Social Sciences; Dr Muhammad Munir, Dr Abid Qafoor Chuadhry, Mushal Malick, Khalid Taimur Akram, Zaman Bajwa, Executive Director of YFK, President of Kashmir Youth Alliance, Dr Mujaid Gillani and journalist Abid Abbasi.
A large number of students and faculty members participated in the function. Dr Mujahid Gillani, while highlighting the Indian atrocities in IIOJK, talked about the forgotten promise of plebiscite by the international community and India in the disputed territory and emphasized on the fulfillment of these commitments for the sustainable peace in the region. Abid Abbasi reiterated that India’s control over illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has been part of a larger strategy with multiple phases. Each phase tightened India’s grip on the rights and freedoms of the people and pushed the world away from the issue, he added.
Dr Muhammad Munir threw light on the hybrid warfare agenda of the Indian government arguing that one of its main goals is pushing IIOJK out from Pakistan’s policy agenda. Khalid Taimur Akram gave a policy suggestion that Pakistan must widen the diplomatic audience to spread the awareness about the Kashmir dispute among the regional states like Central Asian Republics. Mushaal Mallick, wife of jailed Hurriyat leader Muhammad Yasin Malik, lamented that Kashmir dispute, despite being one of the oldest political issues of the world, is the most ignored challenge as well.
She reiterated the positive role that youth of Pakistan can play in rejuvenating the Kashmir dispute among political leadership and policy circles. Concluding the seminar, Executive Director of YFK, Zaman Bajwa, said in this era of social media, youth can play an important role in building a national consensus on issues like Kashmir that are crucial for national and regional stability.
