Sports: Cricket: Umar Akmal submits reply to PCB in anti-corruption case

March 31, 2020

Karachi:The Pakistan Cricket Board Tuesday confirmed that it has received Umar Akmal’s response to the Notice of Charge, which was issued on March 17 for two violations of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code in unrelated incidents.

“The PCB will now review and examine Umar Akmal’s response and provide further details on the next steps in due course. Until that stage, the PCB will not make any further comments on this matter,” PCB said in a media release. Umar Akmal was provisionally suspended on February 20, 2020 during the Pakistan Super League 5 edition where he was representing Quetta Gladiators.

He was charged for failing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department, without unnecessary delay, full details of any approaches or invitations received by him to engage in corrupt conduct. Akmal was issued the Notice of Charge on March 17, and had 14 days to respond in writing to the charge.

According to Article 6.2, the range of permissible period of ineligibility for those charged and found guilty for a violation of Article 2.4.4, which Akmal has been charged for, is a minimum of six months and a maximum of a lifetime.

According to a media report, beleaguered Akmal has decided against challenging the show cause notice. A source close to the batsman said he had submitted his reply to the show cause notice issued to him earlier this month and he had not challenged the charges against him.
