SSGC conferred with 7th TPN CSR Award for its sustainability initiatives

Karachi, January 25, 2018 (PPI-OT):SSGC was conferred with 7th Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards, as a befitting acknowledgment for its initiatives in the area of CSR. The 7th Corporate Social Responsibility Summit and Awards event, organized by The Professionals Network, was held in a hotel in Karachi.

Shahbaz Islam, Head of Corporate Communications, SSGC received the Award on behalf of the Company in the category of ‘Sustainability Initiative’ from Anjum Nisar, Vice Chairman, Businessman Group, KCCI. SSGC’s Corporate Communication Department is responsible for running projects related to education, health care, environment and community development for the primary objective of making a tangible difference in the lives of the marginalized communities. The Company carries out CSR initiatives either on its own or in partnership with government and non-governmental organizations.

Muhammad Zubair, Governor Sindh inaugurated the summit-cum-awards program. In the inaugural session, the Head of Corporate Communications was one of the key note speakers. He apprised the chief guest and the participants on the importance SSGC gives to CSR initiatives even though its core functions remain transmission and distribution of natural gas. The Governor lauded SSGC’s efforts in the realm of CSR. Mehmood Tareen, CEO, The Professionals Network, lauded SSGC’s efforts in the field of CSR and endorsed Company’s unfaltering commitment towards the under privileged population of the society.

SSGC was conferred with this award for its contribution in the areas of education, health, environment and community development and more particularly in undertaking projects of sustainable nature. Of late, besides undertaking conventional CSR-related projects, the Company has worked in tandem with reputed NGOs on a number of sustainable projects such as installation of bio-gas plants for villages of Thatta district, and provision of solar-powered devices and water hand pumps for Tharparkar households. In addition, SSGC has also played a vital role in the preservation of mangroves and has offered bio-degradable, environment friendly bags to super stores in its franchise areas.

The Summit was marked by an incisive presentation entitled “Importance of Vocational Training” by SSGC’s Shahbaz Islam. In his presentation, Mr. Islam stressed that the corporate sector must come forward to invest in those students who are keen to enrol in apprenticeship programs and learn trade and soft skills. He said that as part of its CSR program, SSGC provides monetary support to vocational training institutes such as The Hunar Foundation.
