Standing Committee on Interior meets 

Islamabad, February 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):42nd meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior was held today under the Chairmanship of Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, MNA, in Constitution Room (old Committee Room No. 5) 2nd floor, Parliament House.

The meeting commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran. The Committee directed the Ministry to sit with the Mr. Sher Akber Khan, mover of the issue, for arriving at appropriate solution of the issue regarding difficulties, in visa extension, faced by the Malaysian Citizens of Pakistani origin.

The Committee directed the Ministry to provide basic facilities, including provision of electricity and gas connections and carrying out rehabilitation work, in the areas that are under process of land acquisition by CDA.

The Committee discussed the Bill titled “The Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government Bill, 2021 (Government Bill) and decided to defer the Bill till the next meeting of the Committee. The Bill titled “The Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Bill, 2021 (Government Bill)” was presented before the Committee and after detailed discussion the Committee recommended that the Bill may be passed by the National Assembly.

The Deputy Chief Development, Ministry of Interior, briefed the Committee regarding the budgetary proposals relating to Public Sector Development Project (PSDP) for the financial year 2022-23. The Committee was informed that the PSDP included 85 projects with 37 on-going and 48 new projects.

Total funds demanded for the PSDP amount to Rs. 35451.456 million out of which Rs. 26360.001 million are for completing on-going projects while Rs. 9091.455 million are demanded for new projects. The PSDP for the financial year 2022-23 was unanimously approved by the Committee. The Committee directed to give priority to completion of on-going projects.

The Inspector General ICT Police briefed the Committee regarding law-and-order situation in Islamabad, he informed that with limited resources the Police department is trying its best to provide security and facilitate public. The Committee recommended that the pending cases of Shuhada package may be cleared at the earliest. The Committee also recommended to bring the salary of the ICT Police at par with police departments of the Provinces.

Members/MNAs/Movers Mr. Sher Akber Khan, Mehar Ghulam Muhammad Lali, Mr. Raza Nasrullah, Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Malik Sohail Khan, Rana Shamim Ahmed Khan, Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, Syed Agha Rafiullah, Mr. Abdul Qadir Patel, Mr. Asmatullah and the senior officers from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Law and Justice, M/o Federal Education and Professional Training, Capital Development Authority, Federal Investigation Authority, Immigration and Passports, ICT Police, ICT Administration attended the meeting.
