Standing Committee on Privatization meets

Islamabad, March 06, 2019 (PPI-OT): A Second meeting of the Standing Committee on Privatization was held on 06th March, 2019 at 02:30 p.m. in Committee Room, No.7, 4th Floor, Parliament House, Islamabad for comprehensive briefing by Privatization Division. The meeting commenced with the recitation from the Holy Quran. The Secretary, Privatization Commission briefed the Committee over the working and performance of the Division. He apprised that the Privatization Division has been working with a vision to make Privatization Commission a standard bearer in the on-going struggle to revitalize and restructure Pakistan’s Economy.

The Ministry of Privatization is divided into two parts i.e. Privatization Division and Privatization Commission. The Ministry of Privatization was re-created in 2017. The functions allocated under the Rules of Business include Privatization policies, administration of Privatization Commission Ordinance, 2000, negotiations with International Organizations relating to the functions of Privatization in consultation with the Economic Affairs Division.

He further briefed the Committee that Privatization Commission comprises of Chairman, Secretary and Members of the Board with the functions including policy, legislation, restructuring, planning and implementation of privatization program, working under the supervision of Cabinet Committee on Privatization.

The Cabinet Committee on Privatization has approved new Privatization Program including active Privatization Program consisting of seven (7) National Entities including power plants, SME Bank, Services International Hotel, Jinnah Convention Centre, First Women Bank etc. While Phase-II of the Privatization Program includes 41 National Entities and about 15 National Entities have been delisted from the Privatization Program. The Minister for Privatization told the Committee that main object of Privatization is to get the maximum price of the National Entities.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Muhammad Ahmer Sultan, Ms. Syma Nadeem, Ms. Seema Mohiuddin Jasmeeli, Mr. Jamshed Thomas, Ch. Muhammad Shahbaz Babar, Mr. Mohammad Pervaiz Malik, and Mr. Sikandar Ali Rahoupoto MNA’s and the Federal Minister for Privatization beside senior officers from the Ministry of Privatization.
