Rahim Yar Khan: It is our collective duty to eliminate illiteracy through integration and objective utilization of district resources, said Executive District Officer Zahoor Hussain while addressing a seminar titled “ Literate and Prosperous Punjab through Quality Non Formal Education and Our Responsibilities”, organized by the department of Literacy and Non Formal Basic Education in collaboration with Japan international Cooperation Agency (JICA) under Non Formal Education Promotion Project here.
He admired the efforts and support of education loving leadership of the Punjab Government and assured his commitment to the participants for elimination of illiteracy by giving promotion of literacy as top priority agenda.
District focal person on literacy Arshad Awan showed the current picture of the district regarding literacy rate, gaps and initiatives of the government. He presented a plan of action developed by the participants, how to eliminate illiteracy by integrating, mobilizing and fairly utilizing resources. A play on importance and promotion of literacy was also staged which was well responded by the audience.
Elected representatives, concerned district officials, representatives of civil society, Bar council members, business organizations, philanthropists, teachers, journalists, students and adult learners also participated in the seminar.
A walk for literacy was also held from DCO office to Allama Iqbal library before seminar.
