Struggle in IOK one of greatest HR crises: Sehrai

Srinagar, June 01, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai has said that the ongoing political struggle in Kashmir has become one of the greatest human rights crises in history, marked by wanton killings, detention of leaders and disappearances of Kashmiris.

Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar, reacting on recent OIC joint summit statement on Kashmir dispute, said the relentless grave human suffering is continue being caused by unresolved dispute of Kashmir and lack of compliance with the international humanitarian laws.

He said OIC and the Security Council like international institutions including human rights groups, must yield more than just posturing and empty promises, as innocent population continue bear the brunt of lingering dispute. He urged these institutions to take concrete action to effectively protect civilians and end impunity.

He said the United Nations has failed to fulfill its duties many times throughout its history. It (UN) was set up as an international platform with hope and several objectives primarily including the prevention of confrontation and protecting human rights values, maintaining peace and resolving disputed areas but miserably failed so far, he maintained.

He reiterated his appeal to the world community to go beyond mere posturing and try to resolve Kashmir dispute in the interest of humanity, adding that the Indian government should prefer political and diplomatic process instead of suppression and using brute force against peaceful political struggle. Further, Sehrai greeted Muslim Ummah and people of Kashmir in particular on Shab-e-Qadr and prayed for the well-being of the whole Muslim Ummah.
