Sub-Committee of Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development

Islamabad, September 18, 2018 (PPI-OT): Sub-Committee of Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development in its meeting has decided to defer further discussion on the ‘Companies Profits (Workers’ Participation) (Amendment) Bill, 2018 till the matter of Workers Welfare Fund is taken up in the next meeting of Council of Common Interests. The Committee was told that the devolution has not yet taken place the way it had to and the matter has also been taken to the Apex Court.

The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Senator Shaheen Khalid Butt here at the Parliament House on Tuesday and was attended among others by Senators Sassui Palijo, Syed Muhammad Ali Shah Jamot, Gianchand, Secretary Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Muhammad Asif and other officials. The Committee was told that if the bill is passed before finalising the devolution process, it might create a legal void as the bill will be limited to Federal Area only.

The Committee also took up the matter of establishment of religious institutions for emigrants’ children by Overseas Pakistani Foundation (OPF). Secretary of the ministry told the Committee that the Foundation was principally established to facilitate the families and children of overseas Pakistanis but it has not followed the true responsibility of the work assigned to it. It was told that the Ministry is entering into an MoU with NADRA and FIA to develop a database of overseas Pakistanis who pay the protector price while going abroad so that their families can effectively be taken care of and no one is left out unattended.
