Sukkur has been selected as one of four cities from a pool of 900 candidates worldwide for a distinguished award at the upcoming World Water Summit in Paris, a significant acknowledgment of its advancements in water management.

During a press conference, Mayor and Sindh Government Spokesperson Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh detailed the enhancements in Sukkur’s water supply and drainage systems, including the construction of a modern water treatment plant in the industrial region and the installation of filtration plants in every union committee. Plans are underway to ensure all households gain access to clean drinking water.

Barrister Arsalan also outlined the progress in healthcare and infrastructure under the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party, pointing to the establishment of hospitals such as NICVD, Children’s Hospital, and SIUT, and the reconstruction of 90% of the city’s major roads, including Military Road and Barrage Road. The nomination reflects the city’s commitment to sustainable development goals.
