Lahore, July 10, 2018 (PPI-OT): The month long free summer school “Afkaar-e-Taza Create Conclave” opened by Centre for Governance and Policy of Information Technology University (ITU) for teenage and early adult students with marginalized background shows ITU’s commitment to bring the less privileged from the surrounding areas at par with the others. Dr Umar Saif, founding Vice Chancellor of ITU said in his opening message here today. While appreciating the third summer school initiated by ITU he said that learning was a continuous lifelong experience, which needed to be continued even in summer vacations and Arfa Tower though separates rich and underprivileged surrounding areas also endeavoured to bridge the gap by providing free opportunity to all at state of the art institution.
‘Afkar-e-Taza Creative Conclave’ summer school opened today will be continued till August 3, 2018 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. daily, is inspired by Allama Iqbal’s vision to create new worlds through new and fresh thoughts and ideas, aims to equip students with life learning skills so that they may become active and responsible citizens and contribute towards the nation and the country. Speaking on this occasion Dr Yaqoob Bangash, Director of the CGP, stated that the initiative focused on critical thinking and responsible citizenship for the progress and development of Pakistan.
The schools and universities often failed to bridge this gap in Pakistan and this summer school helped the process through new and creative means, he added. Encouraging students to participate and speak their mind, Farzana Shahid, Director Academics, remarked that often new ideas come from children. ‘The name ‘airbus’ was created by a child, so no one should ever underestimate their potential,’ she noted.
The summer school consists of academic talks on history, politics and economics, sessions on gender, ethics, and peace building, workshops on drama, creative writing, debates and MUN, and other creative endeavours. This wide variety of events ensures breath of topics and depth of learning, with a focus on real life skills. Prominent scholars, thinkers and opinion makers will also speak at the summer school including, Najam Sethi, Sarmad Khoosat, Neelam Hussain, Syed Shafaat Ali, Mehr Tarrar, Rafay Alam, and others.
