Karachi:Azhar Katchi recovered from a set down to beat second seeded Mohammad Ali to secure an unexpected place in the climax of men’s singles event in the first Taqwiyat Ul Iman School Sindh Ranking Tennis Championship here on Friday at Union Club.
Azhar lost the first set 5-7 to Ali but he leveled arrear in the second set winning by 6-4. In a tough fight for a place in the final in the third set, Azhar came out of court with a 10-8 win. He will now face Ibrahim Iltifat in the summit clash. Ibrahim also dispatched expected finalist and top seed for a place in the final.
Meanwhile, Nibras Malik overcame ball-boy Mohammad Haseeb in U-11 event summit clash. Haseeb kept Nibras on tenterhooks throughout the match before Nibras eventually won the game by 5-3, 3-5, 10-5 score.
