The Committee Lauds Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment for Efforts

Islamabad, August 22, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development in its meeting on Thursday lauded the performance of the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment for the efforts it has made to facilitate overseas workers and their families.

The Committee was informed that according to Section 15 of the Emigration Ordinance of 1979, it is mandatory for every emigrant to appear before the Protector of Emigrants for registration and other codal formalities and that the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment has made a great effort to simplify the process and sensitise overseas workers about it. In addition to this various welfare programs have been initiated to facilitate overseas workers and their families in case of disability and death.

Insurance coverage provides upto 1 million against a one-time premium of PKR 2500 for a period of five years. The Committee was told that the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development provides PKR 300000 in case of disability and PKR 400000 in case of death. Standard Operating Procedures have been developed to ensure transparency of financial transactions. I was asserted that there is no pendency of payments. The Committee, while praising the efforts of the Ministry asserted that effort must be made to subsidise education for the children of overseas Pakistani workers in Pakistan and abroad.

Chaired by Senator Hilal-ur-Rehman, the meeting was attended by Senator Syed Muhammad Sabir Shah, Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Senator Nighat Mirza, Senator Najma Hameed, Senator Samina Saeed, Senator Shehzad Waseem and senior officers of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development along with all concerned.
