Third Extraordinary Session of ISESCO General Conference kicks off in Saudi Arabia

Makkah Region The 3rd Extraordinary Session of the General Conference of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) kicked off Thursday in King Abdullah Economic City, Makkah Region, in the presence of Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen and education ministers from a number of Islamic countries.

The conference is expected to approve the appointment of the new ISESCO Director General, Saudi Arabia’s candidate Dr. Salim bin Mohammed Al-Malik, to succeed Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, who has held the post since 1991.

ISESCO is a specialized international organization working within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), specializing in the fields of education, science, culture and communication in the Islamic countries. It is based in the Moroccan capital Rabat.

The Organization was established in accordance with a resolution issued by the 10th Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers in Fez, Morocco, in May 1979. ISESCO currently numbers 54 member states, along with three observer states, out of the 57 OIC countries.
