Thousands attend funeral of 2 martyrs in IOK

Srinagar, May 13, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of the two Kashmiri martyrs in DH Pora and Redwani areas of Kulgam district. Multiple rounds of funerals were held for Aadil Bashir Wani and Javaid Ahmad Butt to accommodate huge rush of people from Kulgam and adjoining areas. Aadil and Javed were killed by the troops during a cordon and search operation in Hend Sitapora area of Shopian district, yesterday. A group of mujahideen also appeared and participated in the funerals. Bodies of the martyrs were taken to their ancestral graveyards amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

The killing led to complete shutdown in Kulgam for the second consecutive day, today. All business establishments were closed while public transport was off the roads in the district. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, condemned the judicial onslaught by India against pro-freedom leaders and their family members. He cited the baseless cases against Syed Shakeel Ahmad and Syed Shahid and said that the court gave a new date of hearing after 70 days without even hearing any argument on the scheduled date of hearing on last Thursday. He said this is how judiciary is being used to just keep innocent Kashmiris behind bars. Shakil and Shahid are sons of United Jihad Council Chairman, Syed Salahuddin.

Meanwhile, several people were injured including many critically when Indian forces fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells on protesters in Srinagar, Islamabad, Badgam, Bandipora, Baramulla and other parts of the territory. As many as 20 injured people were referred to different hospitals for treatment. 47 forces’ personnel were also injured during clashes with the protesters in different areas of Baramulla. Protests were held against rape of a minor girl in Sumbal area of Bandipora district. Kashmir University students also staged a protest inside the varsity campus. High Court Bar Association of the territory abstained from court work in protest against the incident. Strike was observed in many parts of the valley against the gruesome incident on the appeal of Hurriyat leader, Maulana Abbas Ansari.

Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Syed Agha Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Masroor Abbas and Muhammad Musaddiq Aadil in their separate statements condemning the gruesome incident urged the people to maintain unity and vigil. They said the victim girl is the daughter of the whole Kashmir and everyone is in a state of grief. A delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference led by Shabbir Ahmad Dar visited the residence of martyr Ishtiaq Ahmad Sofi in Spore to express solidarity with his family members.
