Ambitious plans, including the development of a cable car, theme park, and safari park, are underway to transform Islamabad into a leading tourist destination, following a high-level meeting between federal and city officials on Thursday.
The significant push to bolster the capital’s tourism and hospitality sectors was the focus of a discussion between the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Tourism, Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, and the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa, at the CDA Headquarters. The session was also attended by senior CDA members overseeing planning, engineering, and the environment.
During the deliberations, Chairman Randhawa detailed several key ventures designed to attract visitors. He emphasized that the city holds immense potential for the growth of the tourism and hotel industries and confirmed that projects for a cable car, a modern theme park, and a safari park are in progress.
Further urban improvements were also outlined, including the establishment of dedicated food streets and pedestrian walkways in Blue Area and other commercial centers. To ease traffic congestion, Mr. Randhawa announced the introduction of digital parking systems, noting that a major parking plaza in Blue Area is nearing completion and will become operational shortly.
In addition to infrastructure, environmental enhancement remains a priority. The CDA chairman highlighted extensive tree-planting campaigns and the creation of the National Hill Park as part of a strategy to expand Islamabad’s green cover, making the capital more ecologically attractive. He also revealed that preparations are being made for an international-standard industrial exhibition, involving chambers of commerce from across Pakistan.
Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan reiterated that promoting tourism is a primary objective for the government. He assured the CDA of the federal government’s full support for these ventures, stating that the expansion of tourism and hospitality will generate significant employment opportunities and provide superior recreational facilities for the public.
The CDA chairman concluded that all available resources are being utilized to reshape the federal capital into a premier, tourist-friendly city, ensuring improved amenities for both residents and visitors.
