Two killed, 17 injured in Lahore blast

LAHORE: Two people were killed and 17 others injured in a blast in Lahore’s Johar Town on Wednesday, officials said.

 

According to the officials and eyewitnesses, the explosion took place in a residential area in the city’s Johar Town. Women and children were among the injured people, police said. The nature of the blast could still not ascertained, they added. The window glasses of nearby buildings were shattered and the sound of the blast was heard in far-flung areas. The blast also left a crater.

 

Heavy contingents of security forces and a team of bomb disposal squad rushed to the scene and performed rescue operation. The people also took part in the rescue operation.

 

Eyewitnesses said a building and some vehicles also damaged in the blast. The injured were shifted to Jinnah Hospital, where two injured succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

 

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has sought a report from IG police about the blast and ordered an investigation into the incident. He said full medical aid be provided to the injured.

 

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has taken notice of the incident and has sought a report from the authorities. He expressed sympathies with the victims and ordered all treatment facilities for the injured.
