UN chief reiterates call for Kashmir settlement through talks

New York, October 25, 2019 (PPI-OT): The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, continues to call for the Kashmir dispute to be resolved through dialogue, saying any solution should be rooted in the respect for human rights of the people living in the Valley, his spokesperson has said.

The spokesman, Stephane Dujarric at the daily press briefing in New York said, Antonio Guterres would engage whenever he can with Pakistan and India on the issue. The Secretary General has discussed the issue of Kashmir with the Prime Minister of Pakistan and with the Prime Minister of India during the General Assembly session and before, he said.

Responding to a question on the situation in Kashmir, Stephane Dujarric said that the UN chief had called and would continue to call for “the situation to be resolved through dialogue and that any solution be rooted in the respect for human rights of the people who live in Kashmir. So, that continues to be his position”.
