Sana’a The United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, arrived in Yemen on Saturday to push Hodeida truce and for talks to shore up a ceasefire in the country’s lifeline port city of Hodeida.
Griffiths is scheduled to hold talks in Sana’a with Houthi rebel leaders and will later travel to the Saudi capital Riyadh to meet Yemeni government officials. The UN had announced that Griffiths, after talks in Sana’a, would later on travel to Saudi Arabia where he will be holding talks with President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi. In the meantime, obstacles hindering the implementation of the Sweden agreement regarding the Yemeni port city of Hodeida prompted the UN head of the truce monitoring committee, retired Dutch Gen. Patrick Cammaert, to travel to Sana’a ahead of Griffiths’ arrival there in preparation for talks with the pro-Iranian Houthi leaders, according to Al-Arabiya English. These meetings come ahead of the upcoming third meeting of the Joint Tripartite Coordinating Committee for the redeployment in Hodeida expected next Tuesday.
The UN head of truce monitoring committee, retired Dutch General Patrick Cammaert, concluded the second round of consultations in Yemen, which was marked by persistent refusal of the Houthi militias to abide by Sweden agreement and the handing over of Hodeida ports and withdrawal from the city, after the second round of consultations ended without any results.
