UN intervention sought for peaceful South Asia

Srinagar, July 03, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership has expressed serious concern over the use of aggressive measures by India and its stooges against the unarmed civilians in the territory. The leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued in Srinagar condemned the nocturnal raids and ransacking of properties of the Kashmiris by the Indian troops and police personnel.

The leadership quoting the killing of a youth, Mudassir Ahmad Butt, from Srinagar said that the youth were being killed in custody under the garb of so-called operation all-out. The leadership appealed to the international community including the United Nations to resolve the lingering Kashmir dispute in the interest of peaceful and prosperous South Asia.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference at its executive body meeting in Srinagar condemned the continued house arrest of APHC Chairman Syed Ali Gilani saying that New Delhi would be responsible if anything untoward happened to him. The meeting was presided over by General Secretary, Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi.

The Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the use of indiscriminate force by the Indian police and troops on people of the Kashmir Valley as an open aggression and the worst form of state terrorism.

The ailing Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Aasiya Andrabi along with her aides Nahida Nasreen and Fehmeeda Sofi was shifted to Central Jail Srinagar on judicial remand. A party spokesperson in a statement said that Aasiya Andrabi’s health was deteriorating and she needed immediate medical check-up.

Indian troops launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Hajin town of Bandipora district, today. Reports said that the forces intend to arrest some youth from the town. Internet service has been suspended while the cordon was continuing till reports last came in. Illegally detained senior Hurriyet leader Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori, has completed 19 years in jail.

Meanwhile, a report compiled by a Srinagar-based journalist Qazi Wasif said that as many as 31,085 people were certified as disabled, mostly due to the use of pellet guns, in the 10 districts of Kashmir Valley since coalition government of Bharatiya Janata Party and the Peoples Democratic Party took power in Jammu and Kashmir in March 2015 till 2017. The number is 74 percent higher than the corresponding past three years. Jammu and Kashmir is the only territory under Indian occupation yet to implement a 2016 law that recognizes 21 disabilities – up from the earlier seven – suggesting that actual numbers could be far high.
